You do know… that behind every ‘Psycho’… is a great woman (who rarely gets a movie credit!)?

This Wednesday watch Anthony Hopkins breathe life into his Hitchcock ‘fat suit’ and Helen Mirren as Alma Reville, Hitch’s clever and long-suffering wife in the new ‘Hitchcock’ biopic (Cert 15, 2012, Sasha Gervasi) just out on Blu-Ray this week. Added 1950s glamour courtesy of Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Biel and Brit James Darcy at Anthony Perkins.

BUT you can see it, as the film-makers intended on the BIG screen with a GREAT audience in the superb new cinema, Bromley Hall, at Langley park Centre for the Perfoming Arts in Beckenham THIS Wednesday 26 June.

PLUS we are following it with the Master of Suspense’s game-changer of a film (and grand-daddy of a horror sub-genre, the Slasher…), ‘Psycho’ (Cert 15, 1960, Alfred Hitchcock) after an interval with FREE snacks to susssstainnnnn you through the thrrrrrrillsssssss!

Café/bar open from 6.30pm and film programme starts at 7pm on the dot, then a 25 min interval then ‘Psycho’, very rarely seen on the BIG screen!

7pm: Our first film is the new mischievous ‘Hitchcock’ bio-pic [Cert 15] a witty and glamorous evocation of 1950s Hollywood with the amazing Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren about the making of ‘Psycho‘ (and one of the longest and most successful marriages in Hollywood) and starring Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh.

– Interval: Free food to keep you going!

– Followed by the original ground-breaking 1960s ‘Psycho’ [Cert 15] – rarely seen on the BIG screen (come and re-appraise it for yourself) – just after 9pm and event finishes 11/11.10pm. Janet Leigh (Jamie Lee Curtis’s mother) and Anthony Perkins help to create one of cinema’s iconic  masterpieces!

Come on… ‘It’s only a movie Ingrid!’ – as Hitch said to Ingrid Bergman! So don’t be scared… it’s a bravura display of great editing and created the template for many contemporary thrillers and horrors but far more clever and restrained than its imitators (there is a teensy weensy bit of blood, but it’s actually CHOCOLATE SAUCE!). The classic shower sequence was storyboarded by Hollywood graphic designer maestro, the legendary Saul Bass.

FILMBOX members have voted for…

Argo – which will be our 22 May screening! Look out for how it does in tonight’s Oscars! Silver Linings Playbook narrowly lost out in our members’ vote but may well pick up some awards tonight.

Ben Affleck in 'Argo'Personally, I think Argo deserves Best Hairdo award for Ben Affleck’s 80’s layered and bearded look! Come to think of it, Bradley Cooper is also sporting a beard in Silver Linings Playbook

Bradley Cooper

STOP PRESS – two tickets now available for our screening of Gael Garcia Bernal’s ‘NO’ this Weds – book at www.ticketsource.co.uk/filmboxcommunitycinema £5 non-members, members FREE. Indeed, ‘NO‘ features more ’80s politics and another bearded look!

Gael Garcia Bernal in 'NO'

We’re delighted to say that most of our films so far have been nominated for Oscars and BAFTAs – do book The Imposter in March, Beasts of the Southern Wild in April, Les Misérables and Argo in May and our first double bill, Hitchcock and Psycho (1960 original) in June!

If you’re having your own Oscars’ party tonight – be fabulous! Oh, and here’s another bearded Oscar-nominated superstar… I wonder if you can do a PhD in tonsure in cinema?
