My favourite things…

I’m not bothered about ‘raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens’… my new favourite thing is the sound of a full audience enjoying a film you’ve chosen! I turned around at one point, when it was quiet, and nearly every single person had a big smile on their face!

So ‘Midnight in Paris’ went down really well last night with FILMBOX patrons – as indeed did the complimentary tasting of The Cocoa Mistress’s AMAZING salted caramel chocolate hearts, vanilla cream chocolate hearts, chocolate covered marshmallows and chocolate covered Kentish honeycomb…..Mmmm!

The raffle winner of her generous hamper full of goodies was ecstatic!  Do check out her fabulous range www.thecocoamistress.com and buy one of her chocolate lollies from us at our next screening!

Even if Woody Allen isn’t your ‘cup of tea’, you’re sure to enjoy Midnight in Paris (2011, 12A)  (BTW – he’s not in it…) – you’ll be transported to Paris in the 1920s and learn that too much dreaming and nostalgia can ruin the present! Owen Wilson turns in a great performance and the film is full of entertaining cameos from top actors (and celebrities from times gone by).  Plus – you’ll be sure to book a trip to Paris at Easter after seeing this! If you’ve never been to FILMBOX, it’s held at the new Langley Park Centre for the Performing Arts. Free car park, clean loos, no popcorn mess, a safe relaxed environment with added extras – do try us. Even if you’re not a member £7 is great value, and our bar prices are keen.

Wilson plays it exactly right: bemused, excited, throwaway, and Cotillard has delicacy and charm. There are real laughs, witty touches galore, beguiling cameos – and the film is actually about something.” (Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian, Oct 2011)

..as a nostalgic film about the sweetness and perils of being seduced by the past, it slips down as easily as a champagne soufflé at Maxim’s.” (Jenny MacCartney, Seven Magazine/Telegraph, Oct 2011)

Paris is closer than you think – ‘fly’ there on 13 Feb at FILMBOX!

Thank you to everyone who came to see My Week with Marilyn this evening. It’s great to hear an audience laugh and hold their breath (but not necessarily at the same time!) – films are definitely better with an audience like you. Any feedback on what we can do to improve your experience at FILMBOX is gratefully received – just email us at LangleyFilmbox@gmail.com. A HUGE thank you to our terrific student FILMBOX team who worked very hard to create a fun evening for you all – go forth and create your own pop-up cinemas all over the UK when you leave school!

BOOK OUR TWO FEBRUARY FILMS  NOW- Whether you have a Valentine or not, ‘Midnight in Paris’ on Wed 13 February will surely make you smile and laugh – a romantic comedy with a difference, which reminds us of all the artists and writers who flocked to Paris across the decades. Owen Wilson is an anxious modern-day Hollywood script-writer who longs to be a ‘real’ writer. He’s on the verge of getting married and settling back into his LA lifestyle, but he yearns for the life of an artist in the bars and clubs of 1920s Paris.

Rachel McAdams is perfect as his unsympathetic fiance, Michael Sheen turns in a great cameo as a cultural know-it-all, the former French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s wife, Carla Bruni, also has a cameo and  Marion Cotillard is enchanting as the woman Wilson’s character meets and shares nostalgia with.  Allen’s script crackles with wit and the cinematography makes Paris look so beautiful, you’ll want to book a weekend there sharpish!

Our licensed bar will be selling a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including sparkling wine, and local snacks.

This month’s ‘special feature’ will be complimentary tasting of a delectable range of hand-made fairtrade chocolates from The Cocoa Mistress, made in Kent!

Love in a box Chocolate Hearts Fresh Selection box Dark orange discs Cappuccino Chocolate Psychedelic egg
