THURSDAY 7 MAYBOYHOOD (cert 15) –  film programme starts 7.30pm, cafe/bar opens 6.40pm.

Filmed over 12 years, Richard Linklater’s film follows an ordinary American family through its inevitable changes and challenges – ‘…while there is inevitable fascination to be found in the changing faces of fashion and technology that occur around them, our primary focus is always the people themselves and the strangely fluid consistency of their personal strengths and foibles… While other directors may appear to be looking at their characters, Linklater seems to be looking with them, sharing in their hopes and dreams, encouraging and allowing us to do the same.’ Mark Kermode (The Observer, 14/7/14)

WEDNESDAY 20 MAYTHE THEORY OF EVERYTHING (cert 12A) – film programme starts 7.30pm, cafe/bar opens 6.40pm.

Accompanied under 18s very welcome. Retiring collection on behalf of the Motor Neurone Disease Association

Based on Jane Hawking’s book, the film follows her relationship with theoretical-physicist Professor Stephen Hawking. The title refers to Hawking’s quest for an all-encompassing theory of the physical universe, but the pathos of the film is that in ordinary life, not everything can be made to fit and make sense. Compromises must be made; people must muddle through. It is a gentle, tender story of lovers who found friendship during and after their marriage.’ Peter Bradshaw (The Guardian, 1/1/15)
