Fab FREE films @HerneHillFilm in May & @freefilmfest all summer! @Beckenham @se20magazine

Please support these terrific film events in SE London – lots of superb films and great venues (a train station? a velodrome? Brockwell Lido?), all powered by volunteer helpers & a thumping great passion for cinema for all – everywhere!

Herne Hill Free Film Festival back in town this May!

Following on from the success of 2014, the volunteer run and entirely free Herne Hill Free Film Festival (HHFFF) is back for throughout May 2015.

This year sees Station Square audiences hoot to Peter Sellers and Alec Guinness in The Ladykillers (1955), the Herne Hill Velodrome come to life with the Dardenne’s The Kid With a Bike (2011) and Brockwell Lido bathed in pastel for Wes Anderson’s sublime The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). The festival culminates in Brockwell Park with the utterly bodacious cult classic Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989)!

Completely free and community led

At a time of escalating cinema ticket prices and the gradual fragmentation of London’s neighbourhoods, the Herne Hill Free Film Festival makes a welcome return as a completely free, completely volunteer-led, locally focused community film festival. First and foremost the HHFFF aims to entertain with a plethora of great films from recent years, as well as a host of classics. On top of this, however, it also draws the local film loving community together and attracts people not just from Herne Hill but local neighbourhoods like West Norwood, Camberwell, Brixton and beyond into one place to share ideas, make new friendships, learn new skills and come away with an enhanced appreciation for the brilliantly eclectic area in which they live. As ever, the HHFFF is organised entirely by volunteers and funded by donations and sponsorship from local estate agent Pedder and the Herne Hill forum.

Founded in September 2012 to provide a wider film programme than available in local commercial cinemas, at good value prices for grown-ups, with a sociable community atmosphere and a licensed bar. We are a not-for-profit community cinema with a membership, open to non-members too. Run by dedicated and energetic volunteers.
