See Matthew McConaughey in indie hit ‘Mud’ on Weds 9 October – poss Oscar contender.

‘Mud’ (Jeff Nicholls, USA, 2012, Cert 15, 130mins) has great performances from Matthew McConaughey and teenage actor Tye Sheridan (Terrence Malick’sTree of Life’ with Brad Pitt), with great support from Sam Shepard and Reese Witherspoon and is a great tale of Mississippi life seen through the eyes of two teenage boys.  It has literary echoes of ‘Stand by Me’, ‘Great Expectations’ and ‘Huckleberry Finn’ – and has some superb cinematography and an atmospheric build up to its climax.

Jeff Nicholls’ third feature as writer and director, ‘Mud’s’ screenplay is a strong contender for Best Original Screenplay in the February 2014 Oscars. McConaughey (who seems to have shrugged off  his rom-com ‘himbo’ image very successfully after the grisly ‘Killer Joe’) is likely to be an Oscar contender for Best Actor for his performance in the forthcoming ‘Dallas Buyers’ Club’ and stars in another possible Oscar contender, Martin Scorsese’s ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ with Leonardo DiCaprio.

We’re working hard to become Bromley’s best new arts centre – a vistor to our festival last week described having found ‘a real gem’ so we hope you’ll come and try us out too. Remember – FILMBOX is self-funded and non-profit making, run and staffed by volunteers.

Our café/bar is open from 6.40pm – come and be social with other film-goers, and the programme starts at 7.30pm and will be finished by 10pm.

Yummy local Simply ice cream and local Kentish fruit juices too!
